Notice of General Election
And
2025 Annual Meeting
Please take Notice that the general election of seat E, F and G on the council will take place on Friday, August 8, 2025 at the Village of Solomon office between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Tribal members eligible to vote may do so during these hours. Absentee ballots will be available for members that are not able to vote on Election Day.
Candidates wishing to run for office:
In order to be considered for candidacy to the council and your name included on the ballot, you must submit a letter of intent and disclosure form to the Tribal Coordinator between June 13, 2025 and no later than July 3, 2025. All letters of intent and disclosure forms submitted by candidates will be included with absentee ballots for tribal membership review. The letter of intent must certify that the candidate is a tribal member eighteen (18) years or older. A disclosure form must also be filled out and include any other information the candidate wishes the tribal membership to know. Qualifications to run for office:
Seats E, F and G are "open" seats meaning that in addition to tribal members residing in the
Nome/Solomon area, they are open to tribal members who do not reside in the Nome/Solomon area and
are not a "Resident Member" as defined by the membership ordinance. In order to be eligible to hold
a position as a council member for Seat E, F or G, a person must meet the following qualifications:
(A) Eighteen (18) years old or older by the date of the election in which the person seeks office;
and
(B) No convictions within the last ten (10) years for any crimes which would be a felony in Alaska,
except for State fishing and/or hunting convictions; and
(C) Free of any physical or mental incapacity which would prevent the candidate from carrying out
the duties of a council member.
In addition to (A) through (C) immediately above, Seat F is specifically designated as a Youth
Seat. In order to be eligible to hold a position as a council member for Seat F, a person must be
at least 18 years of age, and no older than 24 years of age.
In addition to (A) through (C) immediately above, Seat G is specifically designated as an Elder
Seat. In order to be eligible to hold a position as a council member for Seat G, a person must be
at least 55 years of age or older.
