QUYANNA LIZ JOHNSON

Let’s give a pat on the back & a big thank you, to longtime Village of Solomon leader - Elizabeth Johnson.

Not only did Liz work as the Tribal Coordinator for a decade, she also sat on the Tribal Council for 10 years as well.

Liz’s Highlights:

  • Ensured Youth Camp was a budgeted priority, hiring tribal members and streamlining financial assistance when/where it was needed in her accounting experience as Tribal Coordinator and later sitting as Treasurer on the Council

  • Developing forms and policies for tribal management

  • Encouraged (highly encouraged) her daughter, Deilah to work as the Grant Writer back in 2012

  • Strong ICWA advocate for protection and prevention of VOS struggling families

  • Applied and pushed for the VOS to develop and receive BIA tribal court funding in VOS’ establishment of tribal court

  • Started the bi-annual newsletter to membership

  • Ran the B&B several summers as the Tribal Coordinator

  • Linked VOS’ Environmental Dept to her IPOP opposition from her role as President of Solomon Native Corp consistently advocating for SNC and VOS collaboration

  • Started VOS’ calendar

  • Sat as the VOS representative on the NSHC board of directors for several years (approx. 10 years) after longtime NSHC board member Brian James vacated his VOS council seat

Her heart is and always has been for Solomon, for the people and pride of being a part of Solomon. With that, each vote and each engaged discussion at the council meetings, Liz has always made sure that everything the tribe does - is to benefit the people, the land, the cultural traditions to better support the Solomon community. Liz is who you would want sitting on your Council, leading and making decisions for your community to thrive.

Liz has recently moved to Wasilla with a new job working for Alchemy Tribal Services in Anchorage, Alaska - serving the across the state. Due to her move, the residency requirement for her Council seat automatically deems her ineligible for her seat.

If you see Liz around or have her on your social media, please send a gratitude note for her time serving the Village of Solomon.
